Baby Sleep Consultant in Surrey
As a mum of two and a baby sleep consultant, I truly believe that healthy sleep habits make for healthy children. A well-rested child is curious, energetic, happy, playful, and eager to learn.
When parents entrust me as their child’s “sleep guide,” they place a great deal of trust in me. I want to let you know that I take this responsibility very seriously.
My approach to improving your child’s sleep is pretty simple:
- I’ll give you honest information about WHY sleep is so important for your child’s well-being. This will give you all the motivation you need to make changes to your child’s sleep habits.
- I’ll lay out an easy-to-follow, step-by-step plan based around the information you share with me about your child. All children are different, and nobody knows your child better than you do. I encourage you to use your knowledge of your child so, together, we can customise their sleep plan.
- I’ll show you how to measure success. No, you shouldn’t expect your child to sleep 12 uninterrupted hours on the first night — although it does happen! I’ll tell you what you should expect along the way…
A little note about the “crying” question
Since people always ask me about whether my solutions involve crying, it’s something that deserves to be addressed.
Whenever you’re making changes to habits, it’s usually met with an element of protest. Many of us find change hard to deal with, and babies are no different! When we make changes to how your baby fall asleep, they’ll communicate how they feel about those changes the only way they know how, by crying.
How much will vary based on your child and their personality, how big their sleep debt is and how overtired they are. I’ve worked with some families where their children cry a little, some that cry moderately and some that will cry a lot.
What I can say is that I wouldn’t have you leave your child to cry for long periods without responding to them. And I would coach you on just how to do that. I will also advise you on routine and environmental changes to make before we start the plan to give your baby the best chance of settling.
Most of the families I work with see a significant improvement in their child’s sleep within one week.
